Piano students include beginners as young as four or five years old and extend to those studying the instrument at diploma level and beyond. Lessons follow a structured pattern of technical exercises and pieces, leading to success in ABRSM examinations or equivalent progress, with more advanced students working on specific technical and performance issues and repertoire as needed. Music theory, aural and sight-reading are taught explicitly.
Lessons generally begin with an opportunity for the student to demonstrate the results of their practice since the last lesson, and then go on to work on new ideas and material.
For a first lesson it is necessary only to arrive ready to learn – though you do of course need your own piano or keyboard on which to practise at home.
From time to time, during school holidays, I also offer intensive three to five day piano courses for younger students.
